Join Our Team

We are a year round swim team practicing 5 days a week with competitive and pre-competitive options. If you are interested in competing or coaching with us, we attend one swim meet a month. Tuesday through Friday 4pm-6pm is our usual pool practice times for both competitive and pre-competitive programs at Hamilton Recreation Center .  Mondays 4pm-6pm is our optional team bonding hike days depending on weather and anticipated attendance. We encourage pre-competitive swimmers to attend swim practice a minimum of 2 days/week and competitive swimmers to attend 3-4 days/week however all swimmers have the option to attend all practice days Monday through Friday. Be sure to communicate with our coaches what your preferences are.  

Between the months of Feb to May during the High School Swim Season, our pool times at Hamilton Rec Center shift from 5:00pm-6:30pm, note this could change in the future. 

If you think our swim program is for you, please fill out our SFSL Swim Team Tryout form and we will schedule you as soon as we can! If you have more than one swimmer, please submit a tryout form per swimmer.
*Note: We are currently at capacity and only accepting tryout inquiries for our Jan 2025 waiting list. 

For tryouts, we ask that swimmers are water safe in the following before trying out: 

  • Able to float on their back for at least 30 seconds
  • Comfortable being fully submerged under the water
  • Can swim without assistance for at least 25 yards at a time
  • Have a fundamental understanding of the four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly

In our team, we have three groups of swimmers: 

  • White Cap– 6-10 years old. Practice focuses include refining freestyle and backstroke technique and introducing full breaststroke and butterfly stroke. Swimming 12-50 yards at a time, 500-1,500 yards total practice. Practices for 1 hour and 30 minutes with 30 minutes of dryland, and 1 hour in the water. 
  • Orange Cap– 10-13 years old. Practice focuses include refining all four strokes, and introducing endurance training. Swimming 50-100 yards at a time, 1,500-3,000 yards total practice. Practices for 1 hour and 45 minutes with 30 minutes of dryland, and 1 hour and 15 minutes in the water.
  • Black Cap – 13-18 years old. Practice focuses include strength and endurance training while maintaining and fine tuning stroke technique across all four strokes. Swimming 50-200 yards at a time, 3,000-5,000 yards total practice. Practices for 2 hours with 30 minutes of dryland, and 1 hour and 30 minutes in the water.

What to bring:

  • A swimsuit appropriate for swim team
  • Workout clothing for stretching & drylands
  • Goggles
  • Swim cap
  • Towel
  • Water bottle

Membership dues & Fees*:

  • $165/month Pre-Competitive or $200/month Competitive 
  • $100/household SFSL Annual Equipment Fee
  • Service commitment of 20 hours per year
  • USA Swimming Athlete Annual Renewal Fees included in monthly dues   

    *Unfortunately, we aren’t able to offer summer/vacation holds. We’re only able to place your membership on hold for a doctor-certified health event or family emergency.
